Town of Ashland and Surrounding Area
Hanover County (Zone 36)
The Town of Ashland (sometimes referred to as 'The Center of the Universe' by its residents) is located in north/central Hanover County. It is technically a separate entity from Hanover County, with its own defined boundaries and governmental structure, which gives it a unique relationship with Hanover. No other area in the Metro shares the 'Incorporated Town' relationship with its county.
The Town of Ashland is situated off I95 and is bisected by US 1. Route 54, which carries traffic from 95 to many of the rural locations in Western Hanover (Montpellier, Beaverdam), is the main east/west thoroughfare and crosses an active rail line right in the middle of town. Many folks have issued apologies to friends, business associates or families for being 15 minutes late because they 'got caught by a train' in Ashland.
Ashland is also home to Randolph Macon College, a small liberal arts college located on the north side of Route 54. Its stately fraternity homes along the tracks are well recognized by those who take the train from Richmond to DC (or points north) on a regular basis.
Due to the relatively small size, but walkable nature, of the town, Ashland has become increasingly popular for those who seek a place where amenities are close but with fewer of the urban issues associated with true Downtown living. The compact retail district along the tracks features several popular restaurants and shops, including a small concert event venue, that gives the corner vibrancy on many evenings. While Ashland will not be mistaken for Carytown or Shockoe Slip, it does serve its residents well.
The list below shows homes that are listed as ‘Ashland’ by the mailing zip code of 23005 but may be located several miles outside of town. We have also created a map (HERE) that shows homes located either with the borders of Ashland or close by.
