Current MLS Listings for Museum District
Richmond, VA (Zone 10)
As the name would suggest, The Museum District has some museums. Similar to The Fan District in many ways, the Museum District features mostly row home built on a city block grid system. The Museum District begins at The Boulevard (approx. 2800-2900 block), ends at the Powhite Parkway (roughly 4000 block) and is bound by Broad Street and the Downtown Expressway.

The Museum District name is somewhat new in RVA vernacular and some of the old guard may refer to it as 'West of the Boulevard.' The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is considered the gem of the RVA Museum scene and its recent renovation and addition followed by the subsequent coup (The Picasso Exhibit) has created a strong anchor for the arts and cultural movement in the Metro. The Picasso Exhibit was only shown in 7 cities worldwide and RVA was the only East Coast US city to host the collection.
The homes in the Museum District tend to be slightly smaller (typically) than the homes in the Fan District. As the Museum District homes were built (on the average) slightly later than the majority of the homes in The Fan, you probably find a few more instances of detached homes or homes with greeter distances between them. You also begin to find more instances of housing that departs from the row home driven architecture that is predominant in so many of the old Richmond neighborhoods.
Along with the Museums along the Boulevard, the Museum District is home to the quirky and quaint shopping district known to Richmonders as Carytown. Carytown runs the length of the Museum District along Cary Street and features boutique shops, restaurants, coffee shops, clothiers, second-hand stores, art galleries, jewelers and the Richmond tradition of the Byrd Theater. Being able to "walk to Carytown" is a huge selling point for many people that chose the MD as their neighborhood.
Carytown is also a great neighborhood for ingress/egress as it is located strategically at the intersection of Powhite and the Downtown Expressway making access to Downtown, Innsbrook and the neighborhoods along Forest Hill Avenue and in Chesterfield County quite easy. It also is quite close to every child's favorite Maymont Park and Byrd Park so green spaces are close by.
